Before uniting Romania into a single state, some of the people who worked on this historic event used to meet at Caru’ cu bere in order to talk and make decisions. Caru’ cu bere was the place where an association called “Fratia” (The brotherhood) was born, with the purpose of helping young students from Transylvania. If they had good results in schools, they would receive a free meal at the restaurant.
In the more modern times, stars from all over the world came to Caru’ cu bere to discover the soul of Bucharest and enjoy some of the finest romanian dishes. The Rolling Stones, Edward Kennedy, Demi Moore or Nicholas Cage are just few names among those who have payed us a visit.
The brewery even became a cinema space for 2 two dramatic sketches of I.L. Caragiale, a famous romanian author: Două lozuri (1957) and Telegrame (1959).
